Achieving Your Health And Fitness Goals: Setting Yourself Up For Success

It can be tough to stay on track with your goals, especially when you’re working hard and finding it tough to prioritize certain things in your life, like your health and fitness.

The path to success is full of obstacles, but it doesn’t have to be impossible.  With patience and perseverance, you can achieve the goals that are important to you!  By following these simple tips, you can set yourself up for success and finally reach the health and fitness goals that you’ve always wanted.

You need to approach your goals in the right way.  Here are some of my favourite tips for finally achieving your health and fitness goals.

  1. Set Realistic Goals

One of the main reasons people fail to meet their health and fitness goals is because they set their sights too high.  For example, they want to lose 20 pounds in a month or run a marathon after taking up running for the first time last week.  While challenging yourself is great, setting unrealistic goals is often a recipe for failure.

Instead of setting lofty goals that you’re unlikely to achieve, focus on small, achievable goals that you can slowly build on over time.  For example, if your goal is to lose weight, start by committing to working out three times a week for 30 minutes at a time.  Once you’ve met that goal, you can gradually increase the frequency and duration of your workouts until you’re where you want to be.

  1. Create A Support Network

Trying to make lifestyle changes on your own can be challenging – which is why it’s crucial to create a supportive network of family and friends who will help you along the way.  This could involve anything from joining a sports team or fitness class together to having regular check-ins with a friend who is also trying to get healthy.

  1. Make A Plan — And Stick With It

When it comes down to it, achieving your health and fitness goals requires consistency and discipline.  So once you’ve decided what changes you want or need to make, devise a plan for how you’ll stick with it long-term.  This might involve meal prepping every Sunday night, so you have healthy food options during the week or going for a run as soon as you get home from work every day instead of vegging out in front of the TV.  Whatever it is, find a system that works for you and then stick with it day after day, week after week, until it becomes second nature.

Any goal worth achieving is going to require consistency and effort.  Unfortunately, it is impossible to stay motivated every single day.  Motivation alone is simply not enough to get us to our goals – this is why so many of our new year’s resolutions are forgotten by the time that February rolls around.

You will not be motivated every day to put in the work.  Still, if you have created the habits of consistency, then the work will get done regardless of how you feel.  And when it comes to creating new patterns, the key is to make them as easy as possible to stick with.  That means starting small and gradually building up over time.  It also means being patient and forgiving yourself when you inevitably slip up.

It’s Not Going To Be A Linear Path To Success

The important thing is to keep moving forward and not let one setback derail your entire plan.  Creating lasting habits is the only way to guarantee successful outcomes, so start today and see where it takes you.

Achieving long-term health and fitness goals may seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be impossible.  The key is taking small steps and approaching your goals in the right way.  By setting realistic objectives, building a supportive network, and creating (and sticking to) a plan, you’ll be well on your way to becoming the healthiest, fittest version of yourself—for good!
