Tapping and EFT

EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) was developed in the early 1990s by Gary Craig, a Stanford-trained engineer, as he refined techniques he’d studied while pursuing his passion for personal development.  Research studies in recent years have demonstrated its usefulness time and again, and it’s now considered a true “power therapy” by the self-help community and thousands of clinical practitioners alike!

Surprisingly easy to learn, it’s a simple protocol using ancient principles of acupuncture to address both emotional and physical issues without the invasive use of needles.  It’s a process of tapping on various points of the body associated with energy meridian points to encourage a positive shift or change in an emotional or physical state.

Chinese medical practice takes into account a system of the human body that our Western medical model is just beginning to investigate:  Subtle energy that flows through and enlivens the body via a system of channels invisible to the human eye and called ‘meridians’.

You’ll be invited to measure how upsetting an emotional issue feels to you on a scale from 1-10, and then tell the truth about your feelings to yourself while gently tapping on the special points.  Then you’ll measure your feelings of upset again at the end of the tapping, so you’ll know how it’s working!

It isn’t necessary for you to believe EFT will work in order for it to work!  The only requirements are that you can (1) tell the truth about a current distressing emotional response to some event or recall a traumatic incident; (2) focus on it while tapping and talking about your “darker” feelings;  (3) tap and talk about what you would like to feel (the “lighter” feelings); and (4) notice if your internal experience changes.
